Pastor burns holy books in protest of imprisoned clergyman

Dove World Outreach Center pastor Terry Jones on Saturday burned copies of the Quran and an image depicting Muhammad in front of his church to protest the imprisonment in Iran of a Christian clergyman.

Moments later, Gainesville Fire Rescue issued the church a citation for violating the city’s fire ordinances.

Saturday’s act of protest took place in spite of published reports that the Pentagon had urged Jones to reconsider, expressing concern that American soldiers in Afghanistan and elsewhere could be put at greater risk because of the act.

A little more than a year ago, on March 20, 2011, Dove World assistant pastor Wayne Sapp burned a copy of the Quran and broadcast it on the Internet. Reports and images of the Quran burning incited violence in northern Afghanistan in which at least 12 people were killed. Days later, a man wearing an Afghan border police uniform shot dead two American military personnel.

Dove World denied responsibility then for the deaths.

About 20 people gathered Saturday on church property at 5805 NW 37th Street about 5 p.m. for the planned burning. Several Gainesville police officers were stationed across the street from the church or were patrolling the area. A few people watched the scene, but there were no protesters.

Jones and another pastor demanded the release of the Christian pastor Youcef Nadarkhani from an Iranian prison. Jones said Nadarkhani faces execution.

Jones spoke at a podium that was far enough away that he could not be heard by people along 37th Street. The event was streamed live over the Internet.

After the speeches, copies of the Islamic holy book and an image depicting Muhammad were burned at about 5:50 p.m. in a portable fire pit. Shortly afterward, officers in two Gainesville Police Department cars drove onto the property. With them was a GFR official, who issued the citation.

Fire Chief Gene Prince, contacted by The Sun afterward, said Jones had approval for a burn but did not have the required authorization to burn books. Prince said Gainesville has restrictive fire ordinances, adding that books cannot be burned without authorization because of environmental concerns over the burning of glue and bindings in books.

The fine is $271, which includes court costs, Prince said.

Several onlookers watched the event from across 37th Street. Some said they wished Jones and Dove World would stop its activities or relocate, while others noted that Jones has a constitutional right to protest.

Jones first drew attention in July 2009, when he placed signs reading “Islam is of the Devil” on church property and when students who belong to the church later wore T-shirts with the words to public schools.

In September 2010, he drew international focus with a plan to burn Qurans. The U.S. government warned of reprisals against military in Iraq and Afghanistan if the burning took place. President Barack Obama and the Vatican, among others, condemned the plan, which Jones later called off.

Epic Israeli Response to Occupy Movement Tactics

Epic Israeli Response to Occupy Movement Tactics

Much to do, is being made over a video that has gone viral of IDF soldiers persuading protesters, utilizing Occupy Wall Street tactics of pushing their bodies into a security line, into ceasing and desisting.  Oh the horror of it all! Lets see if this video puts things into perspective.

Aggression met with anything less then aggression, leads to bondage

Israeli soldiers push back Palestinians and ISM activists attempting to use the Occupy “Passive Mob Push Forward” technique. “Stand together and push forward with your bodies and your not being aggressive”. This needs to be seen more in America when occupiers and black bloc push against police lines.

Hows that Arab Spring Working Out for Ya?

Hows that Arab Spring Working Out for Ya?

Just makes me warm and fuzzy inside to look forward to the Occupy Spring and the Race Riot Spring. Now if some how, the Muslims in America decide raise up and riot for some bovine fecal matter reason, we’ll have a Full Trifecta.

State Department Barred Inspection of Muslim Brotherhood Delegation

State Department Barred Inspection of Muslim Brotherhood Delegation

The State Department broke with normal procedures last week when it ordered the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) not to conduct a secondary inspection on members of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) on their way to visit government officials and think tanks in the United States.

This happened despite the fact that one member of the delegation had been implicated – though not charged – in a U.S. child pornography investigation, the Investigative Project on Terrorism (IPT) has learned.

According to senior enforcement sources and documents reviewed by the IPT, investigators had information tying Abdul Mawgoud Dardery to the pornography investigation that was based in Pennsylvania. He was the senior member in the four-person FJP delegation which held court with academic groups and met with senior officials at the White House and State Department last week. (For more on what they said, click here.)

The FJP recently won a plurality of seats in recent elections to determine makeup of the next Egyptian Parliament.

Before returning to Egypt, Dardery lived in the United States long enough to attain legal permanent residency, known as a green card. That status lapsed after he left the country for more than six months. The child pornography investigation took place during Dardery’s time here and was noted in his immigration file. It surfaced when CBP officials learned of his pending visit.

A U.S. official familiar with immigration procedures told the IPT that extra inspection is standard operating procedure when a foreign visitor has been tied to criminal or terrorist activities. “Secondary inspections” involve going through the visitor’s baggage and viewing the contents of computers and other electronic devices to search for evidence of illicit activity. Agents would typically search other members of the party to ensure Dardery did not hand off his computer equipment to an associate to avoid detection.

In addition, the Brotherhood’s relationship with the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas would have triggered extra scrutiny for the incoming delegation. But that “secondary inspection” never happened, a law enforcement source said. The State Department ordered CBP not to do it.

The State Department issued a cable specifically barring Customs officials from carrying out any inspections of Dardery and the other members of the delegation on their arrival at New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport. The immigration official described this action by the State Department as “extraordinary.”

Beyond the State Department’s prohibition on conducting extra scrutiny of Dardery and members of his delegation, the State Department barred US Customs officials from carrying out even the standard inspection mandated for foreigners arriving from Egypt, where an enhanced security program is in place as a result of the 9-11 attacks.

The Muslim Brotherhood was founded in Egypt in 1928 with the goal of establishing a worldwide Islamic state through jihad and martyrdom. The group is considered the parent of all Sunni terrorist groups, including Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad.

Pastor Threatens Iran With Quran Burning and Weighs in on Trayvon / Zimmerman Case

Pastor Threatens Iran With Quran Burning and Weighs in on Trayvon / Zimmerman Case

Exclusive From WND:

Rev. Terry Jones warned today he will burn copies of the Quran if Iran doesn’t release an imprisoned pastor sentenced to death sentence after converting from Islam to Christianity.

Jones said in a radio interview that Iran has until April 28 to release Youcef Nadarkhani, currently facing death for preaching Christianity in Iran.

Declared Jones: “We have tried to contact Iran. We have tried to contact many of the religious leaders there. We have put out an ultimatum that if they have not released Pastor Yousef by April 28th we are calling for a worldwide burning of the Quran and also images of Mohammad as a protest.”

Jones is infamous for setting off deadly protests when he threatened to burn Qurans in June 2010 in protest of the 9-11 attacks.

Jones was speaking on “Aaron Klein Investigative Radio” on New York’s WABC Radio.

Jones also announced his Quran burning intentions in a press release and during a protest yesterday outside the largest mosque in Michigan.

Muslims rioted when Jones last threatened to burn the Quran. In Afghanistan, protesters attacked a United Nations mission, killing at least 30 people, including seven U.N. workers, and injuring at least 150 people.  Jones went through with the burnings in March 2011.

During today’s radio interview, Klein asked Jones whether he realizes his Quran burning threat could again result in deadly riots.

“Yes, we do realize that,” he replied.  “Something has to be done. We have few alternatives that we can do. That is something that does get the Muslim community’s attention. … 1,400 years of history has told us that backing down doesn’t work.”

Klein retorted: “But if you know for certain that the Muslim community will 100 percent react, as you know, I know, we all know they will, with deadly riots, with this kind of announcement, I have to ask the question again: Why would you go ahead with something like this?”

Jones responded: “Well because we feel that the situation has become so desperate, the situation has become so violent. As you may be aware of, I believe every five minutes a Christian missionary is killed in a Muslim country. We see what happens in Egypt, they have no problems with burning down churches, killing of Christians.

“I believe in Afghanistan there’s not even one Christian church left. They have no problem here in America defaming our constitution. We feel that something has to be done and we feel that this type of warning, this type of activity is warranted.”
